A unique new tour looking at the history of Camden Town is being launched by award winning social enterprise assisting homeless and formerly homeless guides to move from charity to entrepreneurship, Unseen Tours on Saturday 18 January at 2pm.
Unseen Tours are led by homeless, and ex-homeless, tour guides who have experienced homelessness in the areas where they run the tours. They provide the guides with an opportunity to build their lives through working and engaging with the local community.
The Camden Town tour is led by local resident Mike who after falling ill abroad came back to London and became homeless in the Camden area. He was supported back into accommodation by local charity C4WS and is now leading weekly tours of the area sharing his experiences of life before, during and after his experiences.
Mike said of his new tour: “You think you know Camden, but if you come on my tour, you’ll learn more about our area and hear the stories that made Camden great. I’ll never forget singing on stage with Morrissey and The Smiths at Dingwalls and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
“Unseen Tours have given me the opportunity to develop and build my own tour of the area in which I have always lived. I can’t wait to meet people from the community and give them an insight into my Camden.”
Unseen Tours also runs tours of London Bridge, Shoreditch, Brick Lane and Covent Garden in addition to the new tour in Camden.
